A Few weekends ago while I was home doing my weekend-exclusive religious beauty routine, A thought came to mind that I should create a blog entry about the effective beauty regimen I follow every weekend. This beauty routine keeps my skin and hair healthy looking.
I remember back in the day when I was just a little girl, my mother’s friends would always compliment me on my hair. My hair was big, wavy,shiny and black. My mother would explain to them how she took care of my crowning glory. She used to extract pure coconut milk from a grated coconut and then heat it up in a tin can to make an all natural hot coconut oil and then would apply it to my hair. She would leave it on for a few hours or more before rinsing it out. As a child, I used to dislike it but now that I am grown up, I appreciate what she did and realized the importance of maintaining beauty regimen in the comfort of your home.
When we have healthy skin and hair, it can help us feel more confident and vibrant. How do we achieve it? Here is a list of the products that I’ve been using and would recommend that you give them a try.
When old skin cells start to pile up on the surface of the skin, it makes our skin dull, rough, and dry looking. In case you weren’t aware, our body is constantly producing new skin cells. In order to maintain healthy and youthful skin, we need to remove the old dead skin cells to speed up cell renewal for the new healthy skin cells to grow. The instant way to do this is through exfoliation. Exfoliation also smooths and refines the skin texture making it soft and radiant. I’ve been using and loving Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex Hand and Body Scrub. This nutrient-packed scrub exfoliates , firms and nourishes skin with a rich blend of Red Raspberry, Goji, Acai and Guava extracts. Highly effective in promoting smooth, youthful skin. Mango Butter, a rich emollient that intensely moisturizes and rejuvenates for soft, supple skin. Green Coffee Bean Extract, helps nourish, contour and smooth dimpled uneven skin. Just Stir and mix it and add a little water before every application. This is an excellent sugar-based scrub, it smells deliciously amazing. It makes my skin silky smooth. The price is very reasonable. This is a a keeper in my beauty routine and a definite winner. You can purchase it here;
Washing your face once or twice a day using a regular cleanser will remove make up residue and surface dirt but only a facial mask can remove impurities from beneath the epidermis, exfoliate and unclog your pores thoroughly. We need to apply it at least once or twice a week so that the skincare products we are using will absorb well and work more effectively. It can also help stimulate blood circulation to obtain that glowing skin. Because my target and main concern is to have a brighter complexion, I’m a loyal user of Glam Glow FlashMud Brightening Treatment. It’s composed of powerful and innovative multi-brightening complexes help to create the brightest, lightest, and most luminous skin possible. The TEAOXI® technology is white birch leaf that delivers natural betulin, betulinic acid, and ellagic acid to create an improved, color-balanced skintone. WhiteEnergy™ is a brilliant fusion of powerful natural actives to create intense, bright, and even results. Flashlucent™ is a combination of skin translucency optimizers featuring three levels of exfoliation to drive ingredients into the skin for a luminous, younger-looking complexion. Reflectrum™ is a blend of brightening ingredients boosted with diamond photoluminescence to increase the reflecting level of the skin and make it appear radiant and more attractive. It’s designed for instant and extended results for men and women of all ages, skin types, and skin tones. The smell is fruity and just pure heaven. This works so well in lightening scars, dark spots and even freckles. One essential tip that I think everyone should follow before applying this mask is to steam your face over hot water or press a hot wash cloth to your face before beginning a mask. The heat works to soften the debris in your pores and clean your skin. Don’t forget to take your mask down to your décolletage. Your neck is just as important as your face and needs that TLC. This mask is everything I wanted all in one. It’s exfoliating, radiating, skin-clearing, brightening, works like magic. I’d recommend it to anyone. You can purchase it here:
Micro-needling is a general term for a process that involves moving a special device over your skin that has a roller with many tiny (usually metal) needles embedded in it. There are different kinds of micro-needling devices with different product names. One is the manual version of micro-needling called a Derma roller. Yes, this is part of my weekend beauty routine. Dermarollers resemble small paint rollers you would use to get into tight spots. They act as miniature aerators, like something you’d use on your lawn. They have a round, rotating cylinder with at least 200 tiny needles protruding from it, and a handle for moving it around your face. And that’s exactly what you’re supposed to do with it. You roll this quasi-aerator over your skin with some amount of pressure, puncturing hundreds of tiny holes along the way. The primary purpose of micro-needling is to stimulate collagen and elastin production by irritating the skin, thereby improving the appearance of wrinkles, and enhancing delivery of skincare ingredients.The Derma roller, a handheld microneedling device invented by a German scientist, hit the market in 2000, and has had a resurgence of interest here in the U.S. It promotes new tissue growth, and it does it very simply, with simple trauma. You can choose needles of varying thicknesses when you buy your roller. The size of the needle can be 0.5mm, 1.0mm or 1.5mm. I am using a 0.5 mm because I only want to stimulate collagen production. I apply skin serum or moisturizer first before I start micro needling. Using this requires pain tolerance because rolling hundreds of pins on the face is a painful process. The procedure has some pre and post care guidelines that should be followed correctly. There are so many videos online showing how to properly use this skin care tool, so keep watching and reading before purchasing. In Morocco, argan oil is used to dip bread in at breakfast or to drizzle on couscous or pasta. World-wide, it’s gaining a reputation both as an ingredient in high-end, personal-care products and as a heart-healthy gourmet product.The golden-colored oil, extracted by hand from the fruit of a thorny tree that grows in southwest Morocco, soothes rough skin and gives hair a nice shine. Argan oil’s nutrient-rich composition—including vitamin E and an omega-6 fatty acid called linoleic acid that has anti-inflammatory properties—makes it healthy for the skin. I just put a few drops on my hands, then I rub my hands together and pat the oil onto my face, neck and hair. I apply this to my skin for hydration in order to fight aging and to my hair ends to repair split ends. When applied to the fingers and toes, it promotes stronger, healthier nails naturally because of the high levels of Vitamin-E. Saponins in Argan oil reactivate skin cells’ ability to regenerate, keeping your largest and most important bodily organ healthy and strong. I use this at night on the weekends ,however, you can apply it daily if you prefer to do so. This product works and I would highly recommend it. You can buy it here :
This tandem is my weapon for thicker, stronger, and longer hair. In my desperate search to find a cure for my brittle and damaged hair, I came across a few articles recommending using a mixture of coconut oil and castor oil as an effective treatment to bring dead hair back to life.. Castor oil is made from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant that’s been used as an age old beauty treatment. It has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties and is high in Vitamin E, minerals, proteins, and Omega 6 and 9 beneficial fatty acids. Its unusually high ricinoleic acid ratio makes it beneficial to skin and hair. It’s been traditionally used topically for acne and other skin conditions, as well as hair loss and rashes. It’s antibacterial and anti fungal properties make it beneficial against follliculitus, dandruff and scalp infections and its ricinoleic acid content helps increase circulation to the scalp and improve hair growth. It can also help replenish the scalp’s natural oils and treat some of the damage of harsh chemical hair products. Castor oil when combined with Virgin Coconut Oil will produce a wonderful treatment result. Coconut oil has been used for thousands of years by Pacific Islanders and peoples throughout the Tropics. I knew this based on experience as I stated above what my mother used to do with it for my hair. Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants, and has antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial properties. When used on hair, it improves scalp health, fights infections and fungus, supports hair growth, all while adding volume and shine without the common harmful chemicals. It is an excellent conditioner that binds to the natural protein structure of the hair. This helps the hair retain its natural moisture content and reinforces the hair fiber, making it stronger. To make the mask, I scoop out a handful of organic virgin coconut oil, heat it for 40 seconds in the microwave and add same volume of castor oil. This treatment is meant as Pre-washing. I flip my head upside down and spread the oil mask all over my dry hair. I distribute it evenly using my fingertips and a big comb. Once my hair is soaked, I used a clip to keep it in place. I cover it with a shower cap and leave it on for 30 minutes or even overnight before rinsing. If I’m busy with other stuff, I just leave it on till I’m ready to wash my hair. You need to wash your hair atleast twice to rinse away all the oil. I’m always amazed how soft and smooth my hair is after each treatment and I notice how fast my hair grows since I started using this combo. Try it to believe it. You can purchase the products here :
Honey has been used since ancient times to treat multiple conditions. In the late 19th century that researchers discovered that honey has natural antibacterial qualities. Manuka honey, produced in New Zealand by bees that pollinate the Manuka bush, is one of the most unique and beneficial forms of honey in the world. What makes Manuka honey different is its amazing nutritional profile. Regular raw honey is already known for its tremendous nutritional and immune boosting abilities. The typical raw unfiltered honey is a rich source of Amino acids, B vitamins ,Calcium , Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc yet with Manuka honey, the nutritional content is up to 4 times that of normal flower honeys. This is what is called the Unique Manuka Factor. Manuka honey has a considerably higher level of enzymes than regular honey. These enzymes create a natural hydrogen peroxide that works as an antibacterial. Manuka honey has an elixir effect that boosts energy and enhances your quality of life. Because of its nutrient dense profile, it boosts vitality, youthful energy, and has been known to improve skin tone and texture. Growing up , I used to eat 1 to 2 table spoons of honey everyday. My mother used to let me and my sisters have this daily together with our vitamins. My love for honey never faded. I don’t only just eat it, or mix it into my drinks but I also use it as facial mask. Upon finding the benefits of Manuka honey, I never hesitate to buy a jar despite of it’s pricey cost because I only want the best for my health and for my skin. For my beauty uses, I apply it once a week as my night time mask. Manuka has healing properties to give skin that vibrant, radiant look. You can also mix Manuka honey with brown sugar to make a great exfoliating sugar scrub. Celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johannson are said to be big fans of this wonder food. Some cons in using Manuka Honey are the expensive price, when you are a diabetic you should consume low amount and if you are allergic to bees, take Manuka honey with caution. But as for me who’s constantly looking for the best product for myself, I think I’ll stick with this one.
That’s it! I hope I did not overwhelm you guys. Do you have any great beauty products that you think I should try or include in my weekend beauty regimen? Please let me know, I’m always curious about trying new ones! Talk to you soon!
